These animals have a large wild population even though they’re an introduced species…and hunters are the benefactors. They offer a chance for the average hunter to go on a true mountain sheep hunt at a fraction of the cost. If you’ve considered hunting aoudad sheep in Texas, the time is NOW! The cost will only continue to go up. We’d love to help, get in touch with us to start planning.

Texas aoudad hunts can be done with any weapon you choose. While archery hunting is possible, and an experienced bowhunter can get within bow range, bowhunting for aoudad is tough. You will be faced with situation to either shoot long distance, or a long stalk to shorten the distance. The problem with the second option is if you lose sight of your ram while trying to get closer, he may have naturally moved off as they move often. A rugged, rocky-outcropping perfectly conceals the aoudad rams, while the mountainous desert landscape and fluctuating wind and temperature variations provide the hunter with little assistance in their pursuit.

ONLY 6-8 hunts available each year on this 8,000+ acre ranch in West Texas.

Lodging and Accommodations

Accommodations are a nice bunkhouse and cookhouse on an 8,000 acre private ranch in the panhandle region of Texas. The bunkhouse includes a comfortable living room with TV, cell service is available, bunkhouse style beds and showers (there is no laundry facility). The cookhouse features a professional grade kitchen, dining room and covered wooden deck for open air dining (and glassing Aoudad).

Breakfast starts with a pot of coffee, then hunters will have a choice of a typical hot breakfast of eggs, bacon, pancakes and toast or a lighter breakfast bar type nourishment for those who don’t like to be weighed down at the start of the day.

Depending on the hunter’s preference, lunch can be sandwiches while relaxing at the cookhouse for a bit or a short trip into town to get lunch at a local restaurant.

You will typically have a choice for dinner as well; if you spend a few nights you’ll probably enjoy a mix of both, dinner at a restaurant and some home cooking in the professional grade kitchen at the ranch cookhouse: Featuring: Enchiladas, Roast, Steak… with sides and dessert.

Guides

Experienced, capable, friendly guides who have been guiding for years.
These guys thoroughly know the land, know these animals and know firearms.
Aoudad are a non-game species so there are no set season dates, however, this outfitter prefers to keep their hunts in January and February to avoid encounters with rattlesnakes.

Typical Daily Schedule

Starting sometime around 0:dark:30 with a pot of coffee and a hot breakfast hunters will be primed to head out from the cookhouse in hopes of locating one of the truly huge Aoudad that make their way across this ranch daily. That is, unless they decide to sit tight and glass right from the wooden deck of the cookhouse as the sky begins to illuminate the the nearby hills; Aoudad are not an uncommon site from that rustic vantage point.

If the decision is made to take the trek in search of a trophy, guests will find the Aoudad traveling between steep caliche canyons, the surrounding agriculture and various watering holes. Barbed wire fencing surrounds the ranch which keeps cattle in but doesn’t hinder these wild animals at all from moving freely on and off the property at will.

Having spotted a desirable animal, the guides are expert at getting hunters into the proper position to make an effective shot: hunters should be proficient with their rifles out to at least 300 yards; if sights happen to get “tweaked” these guides are extremely competent to help get them “dialed back in”.

Archery hunters; you know the deal, this is a sheep hunt; rifles are recommended but if you insist…be prepared to be patient and be very confident and proficient at 60+ yards.

After the game is “in the bag” they’ll be loaded and transported to a meat processor who can take care of the hide and trophy; cut and wrap the meat; and ship everything back to wherever the client would like. Once the heavy lifting is done, there’s nothing left but a celebratory meal and a trip home to tell the stories.

Before the day in the field is over hunters can determine with their guide whether they will have a home cooked meal at the ranch or head into town for a nice dinner out.

After dinner there is a comfortable living room to relax in before you hit the sack to prepare for another early morning.[/vc_column_text][vc_separator el_width=”50″][vc_column_text css_animation=”appear”]
