British Columbia Caribou Hunting

Despite declining caribou populations across North America, Spatsizi Park remains home to the largest mountain caribou herd in British Columbia.

Collaborative efforts with government agencies and First Nations groups have contributed to positive trends in population recovery, showing promising results. Established in 1975 as a park due to its significant caribou herds, this premier Mountain caribou outfitter offers a unique opportunity to hunt this remarkable species. The park’s two primary herds concentrate around the Spatsizi Plateau and Blueberry Plateau, providing hunters with access to prime locations.

Caribou harvested here are known for their impressive size, with bulls consistently ranking among the largest on record. Each year, 10-20% of harvested bulls score between 390 and over 400 B&C points, while the average bull scores around 375. During early hunts, the bulls are often found near lakes, accessible by plane, and may still have velvet on their antlers, which can make for an impressive mount.

Hunts typically involve using horses to explore the expansive plateaus where the caribou are rutting. Accommodations in cabins or tent camps are situated right in the heart of prime caribou territory, offering an authentic and rewarding hunting experience.
