Unguided Sitka Blacktail Deer Hunts on Kodiak Island

This is a great DIY hunt from a very comfortable yacht with a top-notch captain.

These unguided deer hunts on Kodiak Island, Alaska takes place from a 5 star luxury yacht, traveling to remote regions of the Island. The Captains have hunted these areas for over a decade and will put you in some of the Island’s best Sitka blacktail deer country on a daily basis.

Sleep each night on the boat, enjoying a comfortable two person room. Home cooked meals daily are included in the hunt price. Five full days hunting, including blacktail, fox, sea ducks and fishing.

*This hunt requires a eight person group to secure the whole boat.

An average mature buck will score in the low to mid 80s, and are typically unsymmetrical with broken tines…bucks over 100 inches are VERY RARE.

TRAVEL INFORMATION

Fly commercially to Kodiak one day prior to your hunt. The following morning fly to Old Harbor where you will meet your captain and cook, then help load gear and head out.

  • Transportation from old harbor to hunting areas is included.
  • Travel by boat day 1, then enjoy 5 full hunt days on boat and return travel to Old Harbor then Kodiak on day 7.
  • Hunt days are typically Sunday to Saturday in late October through the first week of December. Arrive on Sunday, hunt Monday-Friday, leave on Saturday.

In the Field

Lodging and accommodations

You’ll be sleeping on a 65 or 67 foot boat with a heated, two person rooms, including a shared on-board bathroom with limited showers.

Enjoy hot home cooked meals including breakfast, sack lunches for field days and fresh, hot evening meals back on board. Fresh produce, bacon, eggs, fruit, seafood, soups, snacks, etc. Not to mention fresh meat from animals taken and caught during the hunt.

WEAPONS

You can hunt with your rifle or your bow. It’s up to you.

typical daily schedule

This is a DIY hunt with NO guiding included. However, a very safe, knowledgeable boat Captain will run the transport and travel activities, dropping you off and picking you up on the beach daily.

You’ll be up early for hot breakfast and coffee, then shuttled to shore by small boat or Zodiac. Return pick up in the evening at your drop-off spot and back to the boat to dry out gear, relax, shower and enjoy supper. After a good night sleep in the warm two person room, you are back at it the next day.

Groups have daily options of hunting deer, sea ducks or fishing.
