Overnight vs. Day Trips

Booking an overnight Alaska halibut fishing trip, presents numerous advantages over daily fishing trips. The primary advantage of choosing a long-range, overnight trip is having the opportunity to engage in productive fishing areas that are out of reach for day-trippers. These untouched territories teem with a variety of species, giving you a higher chance of catching a trophy fish.

Additionally, anglers will have the chance to immerse in the remote, pristine wilderness of Alaska. This extended experience allows you to fully absorb the natural beauty and serenity around you, making the adventure much more enriching.

Moreover, all meals are included in the package, simplifying your logistics and letting you focus solely on your angling adventure. You can enjoy delicious, locally-sourced meals without the hassle of planning and preparation.

Travel Information

Hunters will need to fly into Anchorage and then to Homer.

There are two ways to get to Homer- via either Ravn Air or Aleutian Airways for flight options (will need to rely on taxi services) or renting a vehicle while in Anchorage and making the drive down (most common).

We recommend all guests arrive and stay in Homer the night PRIOR to your trip and the night you return. This ensures being ready for the early departure and also allowing all fish to get processed upon return.

Renting a vehicle is the most common method for getting to Homer, as it will save on baggage fees post trip for those wishing to bring home boxed fish via checked bags on their flights.

Alaska Fishing Regulations

Before embarking on your Alaska halibut fishing trip, it’s important to be familiar with the regulations set by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game. In Homer, anglers will be fishing the waters of Cook Inlet and the Gulf of Alaska, also known as area 3A. These regulations limit the size and number of fish that can be caught, as an effort to ensure sustainable fishing practices. Daily limits and size restrictions vary depending on the targeted specie. Below are the regulations for the Homer area:

Pacific Halibut
2 fish per day, per angler. 1 fish must be under 28″ and the second fish can be of any size. Halibut is closed on Wednesday to all sport-fishing anglers. No annual bag limit.

King Salmon
1-2 fish per day, per angler. Limit depends on areas fished and time of year. Anglers are limited to 5 king salmon per year from April 1st- September 1st.

Ling Cod
1-2 fish per day, per angler. Limit depends on areas fished. Fish measure 35″ or more.

Rockfish
3 per day, per angler. No annual bag limit.

Silver Salmon
3 per day, per angler. No annual bag limit.

Pacific Cod
No daily limit. No annual bag limit.

PLEASE NOTE: On our overnight trips, we often fish the waters located around Kodiak Island. Because this is a weather dependent option, we are focusing on the fishing regulations and limitations set for Homer. In the event weather allows us to venture to Kodiak, anglers will be provided with the updated fishing regulations and limitations.

Weather Considerations

While we strive to ensure a seamless and memorable trip, the unpredictable weather of Alaska can sometimes throw a wrench in the plans. On rare occasions, inclement weather may prevent the trip from taking place or cause unexpected delays. We recommend that all guests be prepared for such contingencies.

Please note, however, that any expenses incurred due to these unforeseen delays, or expenses incurred before or after the trip, are the sole responsibility of the guests. This includes, but is not limited to, accommodation, meals, and transportation costs. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in this matter.

Since the areas we travel to are remote and wild (that’s why we go there!), we recommend that all guests have, at minimum, medical evacuation insurance for this program. This is for the safety of all guests. We recommend that your chosen
independent insurance plan includes at least $250,000 in medical evacuation coverage.

To protect your investment and to provide peace of mind while you travel, we also strongly recommend purchasing comprehensive travel insurance. Plans may cover everything from medical treatment to trip cancellations and delays and lost luggage.
