Alaska Moose Hunt #OI-HAGO4

HUNT #OI-HAGO4

Alaska Moose Hunt

Over the years this outfitter has had hunters take a number of bulls that reach the exclusive 60” Club, with a few lucky souls harvesting all time B&C or P&Y record book trophies. To make sure that each one of our clients has a quality experience they only take a limited number of hunters each year.

  • Moose floats trips may involve glassing from the boat or setting up in a stand on a swamp and calling.
  • The hunt areas are mostly forested. There is the option of spiking out above the treeline if you wish to call/glass.
  • On a typical year,  a few of our hunters take bulls that make the 60” club. These hunters are almost always patient and willing to work hard.
  • All hunts are 1×1 and 10 days in length unless otherwise noted.
  • Wolves, Black Bears, Caribou and Wolverine can be taken for just the price of the tag! No wolf tags are required in this hunt area until after successful harvest.
  • The outfitter strongly encourages the taking of wolves.
  • Wolverine season opens September 1st each year.
  • Moose hunters don’t need a lot of specialized gear.  Good rain gear and chest waders as well as a dry bag or two for our float hunts are all you really need other than your personal gear.  Having to walk through some boggy areas and climbing a hill or two for glassing should be anticipated.  Other than that moose hunting isn’t as physically demanding as some of Alaska’s other big game.  However the better the physical shape you show up in the more enjoyable and often more successful the hunt will be.

You have three choices  (depending on availability):

  1. Float Hunt
  2. Remote Moose Camp
  3. Lodge-Based Hunt.

Resources to Learn More About this Hunt:

Float Hunts

Jump into a piper super cub with huge bush tires that let you land on the always-changing river bottoms.  Our expert pilots will get you there safe and sound.  Once you’re done with this spectacular flight you will arrive on a river that has seldom been floated and is one of our most remote areas that we hunt.  Your guide will have your raft ready to go and all your gear packed.  Our pristine rivers are full of all different types of fish and offer something that a lot of other hunts don’t… constantly changing scenery and hunt opportunities.

You and your guide are masters of your own destiny.  You can stay and hunt a specific area or you can pick up and move to a completely different spot.  For our more adventurous clients a float hunt may be exactly what you are looking for.  Our float hunts offer perhaps the best opportunity if one is looking to take both a moose and a bear.  A wolf could be another added bonus and just for the price of the tag.  No trophy fee is associated with taking wolves or wolverine on any of our hunts.  In fact the taking of wolves is encouraged as it helps manage the predation on all the game in our hunt areas.

Another bonus of float hunts is the amazing fishing that our rivers hold.  Whether it is a nice silver salmon or a feisty artic grayling all our fishing is a blast and we encourage our clients to enjoy the fishing and add it to their memory of an amazing moose hunt.

Remote Moose Camp

You will be flown into one of the most remote and beautiful places on earth.  Enormous 18,000’ mountains will be seen as you unzip the fly of the tent.  Hunting moose in the rut offers the unique opportunity of getting the giants of the forest to come to you.  Our expert guides have years of experience behind them, both spot and stalk and calling are skills our guides possess.  There isn’t anything that is much more exhilarating than seeing a 1600 pound giant swaying his huge antlers back and forth thrashing every bush or tree he walks near.  Hunting these giants is truly an experience one will never forget.

Lodge-Based Moose Hunts

Hunting out of our remote lodge is often a choice of our many returning clients.  Your trip will start with jumping on a bush plane that is float equipped and heading into the beautiful Alaska Range.  Mt. McKinley will be on your right during your commute.  Have your camera ready!  Once at the lodge settle in to your own private cabin and get prepared for an amazing adventure.  Jump in our rainwater fed sauna if you want to relax and clean up after your long journey here.

Your mornings and nights will have an amazing meal cooked in the main lodge.  Your lunch will be packed and ready to go well before you finish breakfast.  You then have the option of hunting on foot or boat right out of the lodge. Jumping on one of our many four-wheelers and traveling up to the open tundra above tree line is also an option.  Spending a few days in this high country is very successful and you always have the option of going back to the lodge for some of our bush style living comforts.  Both options are used each year and both are highly successful.

Travel Information

Coming Soon….

Once your moose is down we devote our full attention to proper care of your trophy and the delicious moose meat.

Some of our hunters opt to not take all of the meat with them; this isn’t an issue, as we have no shortage of people that would jump at the chance to fill their freezers for winter.  If you want to take the moose home we can refer you to a local processor that will help cut, process, package and ship your bounty to your home wherever that may be.
