Premier Vancouver Island Roosevelt Elk Hunts

Vancouver Island is home to the Roosevelt Elk, the largest and heaviest elk species in North America.

These impressive animals can live up to 15 years, weigh over 1,000 pounds, and often feature massive Boone and Crockett racks, known for their distinctive crown-like formations. This sets Vancouver Island’s Roosevelt Elk apart from other elk species, attracting big game hunters from around the globe. In fact, many of the world’s top 50 trophy bull elk have been harvested here, showcasing the region’s reputation for exceptional elk hunting.

The island boasts the purest strain of Roosevelt Elk in North America, and wildlife officials closely manage the population to maintain healthy herds and sustainable hunting opportunities. This careful management ensures that hunters have excellent chances at bagging Boone and Crockett caliber bulls.

Roosevelt Elk hunts on Vancouver Island with this outfitter include both an early archery season in September and a rifle season starting in early October, after the rut. The hunts are free-range, spot-and-stalk adventures that use 4×4 trucks and quads to access remote areas. Hunters will glass logging slashes, timbered creek bottoms, and alpine meadows, making for an exciting experience suitable for all ages.

Trophy bulls in this area typically score 300 inches, with shooting distances ranging from 50 to 350 yards. A heavy bullet caliber rifle, from .300 to .375, is recommended for optimal results.
