Outdoors International TRIP #OI-TC1

Gustavus Alaska Fishing Adventure

Fish the pristine waters of Southeast Alaska, surrounded by breathtaking wildlife and guided by local experts.

Imagine the thrill of casting your line in the shadow of Glacier Bay National Park, with the crisp Alaskan air filling your lungs. That’s what you’ll get in Gustavus, Alaska, where the fishing grounds are as pristine as they come. Our guides, with years of local know-how, make sure you’re not just fishing, but experiencing the wilderness in its full glory. From the moment you step on one of our top-notch North River boats, comfort and adventure are guaranteed. Whether you’re a seasoned angler or just getting your feet wet, the excitement of landing halibut, salmon, or even a salmon shark is unmatched. And let’s not forget the wildlife—humpbacks, killer whales, and eagles are all part of the show. It’s fishing at its finest, with a side of raw, untamed Alaska.

You’ll be reeling in halibut, salmon, and lingcod, among others. The fishing here is excellent, with a good chance of landing some hefty fish.

The prime season for fishing in Gustavus, Alaska is May through September. King salmon are best in May and June, while silver salmon peak in August. Halibut fishing is solid all summer, and lingcod season runs from May 15 through September.

You’ll be using top-quality gear. For halibut, expect Avet EX-30 2 speed reels, and for salmon, Shimano Tekota reels are the go-to.

Lodging varies based on availability. You might stay at places like Chinook Lodge or Glacier Bay Eagles Nest Lodge. If you’re looking for something a bit more upscale, Bear Track Inn offers private baths and fine dining.

You’ll typically fly into Juneau and then take a connecting flight or ferry to Gustavus. Once there, ground transportation is provided.

Layers are essential due to the variable weather in Southeast Alaska. Don’t forget your fishing license and be ready for both sunny and rainy conditions.

Success rates are high, and clients often talk about their ‘monster catches.’ It’s not uncommon to hook record-size halibut.

I didn't think an experience like this was possible.

This trip, was, for me at least not just a trip, for me it was a real adventure, a real experience. I love the wilderness and this trip afforded me the opportunity to connect with the Alaskan wilderness in ways very few people do. It was an experience I will never forgot in a place I can’t wait to get back to.

The outfitter handled everything perfectly.

We were thankful that Outdoors International hooked us up with a great outfitter because they were able to find us an acceptable alternate on short notice. Overall the two year process to get this float in was seamless and worry free. Just like it should be.

Thank you, Stan Masneri

What an amazing experience!

The lodge was out of this world! Our rooms, the delicious food, the incredible wildlife and the scenery were amazing. Our photo safari guide was truly exceptional and had us on animals almost constantly. We saw over 30 different species and had some incredible up close experiences. Africa is amazing!
