About This Hunt

This premier guided hunt gives you the chance to pursue giant mule deer in the Sonoran desert, with the option to add a trophy Coues deer on a trophy-fee basis. Hunts run from December through February, with the peak rut falling in mid-January — prime time when bucks are constantly on the move and a trophy-class animal can appear at any moment.

Mexico outfitters are required to submit a biological survey to Game and Fish officials every season as part of the licensing process. Mexican officials then issue tags based on these survey results, ensuring that the best-managed ranches continue producing quality bucks year after year. Our outfitter’s ranches benefit from supplemental feeders and water sources, which further support and attract mature deer.

Trophy Quality and Opportunity

• Average buck scores approximately 190 inches, with the potential for animals reaching 220 inches or more.
• The best-managed ranches in Sonora regularly produce bucks exceeding 30 inches in width and scoring well over the 190-inch class.
• Hunters can expect to see multiple bucks scoring over 180 inches over the course of a normal hunt — and in good years, several per day.
• A Coues deer add-on is available on a trophy-fee basis, offering a true combo desert deer experience.

Hunting Methods and Terrain

Rifle hunting is the primary method offered on this hunt, and the rut in January is considered the best time to pursue mule deer with a rifle. During this period, bucks are moving frequently and unpredictably, dramatically increasing your chances of encountering a mature, trophy-class animal.

Your days in the field will consist of a combination of glassing from high vantage points and high-rack pickup truck hunting — an effective and comfortable method for covering the vast desert terrain. One past hunter reported seeing an average of 50 or more mule deer per day from the truck, including multiple bucks in the 180-inch class. The terrain features remote locations accessible via many miles of well-maintained gravel roads across expansive private ranchland.

Physical Difficulty

This hunt is offered across a range of physical demands. Portions of the hunt — particularly glassing and high-rack hunting — can be relatively easy physically, while other aspects of the terrain and pursuit can be more demanding. Hunters of varying fitness levels have successfully participated, though being in good physical condition is always recommended for any hunting adventure.

Logistics and Travel

Getting to your hunt is straightforward. Plan to fly into Tucson, Arizona, where your guide will pick you up at the airport. From there, you will drive across the border into Sonora, Mexico together. Lodging is provided in a ranch house setting, with comfortable beds and all meals included. Expect authentic, local Mexican food throughout your stay. As these are remote ranch locations, electricity may be generator-powered at times — a small trade-off for the incredible access to unspoiled, lightly pressured hunting ground.
